"On top of this, the author hits you with a behavior change technique that is used in the ‘quit smoking space’ (pioneered by Allen Carr and his book “The Easy Way to Quit Smoking”) that I hadn’t come across despite my nearly 2 decades in the health space". It was interesting to see Chris van Tullekan claim that the idea of carrying on smoking while reading Allen Carr’s Easy Way to Stop Smoking is to have the reader disgusted by cigarettes by the time they finish. This is to misunderstand Allen Carr's brilliant method - which is not aversion therapy. The idea of not changing your behaviour while reading an Allen Carr's Easyway book (whether it is the smoking, vaping, sugar addiction, tech addiction, alcohol addiction or any of the 9+ other addictions/issues that the method has been applied to) , is to prepare the reader with all the information they need to ensure their success BEFORE they commit to making the change. It is often mistaken for a form of aversion therapy but that really doesn't play a part. It's great that you got so much out of Chris's book and thank you for an interesting read (and apologies if the above sounds like nitpicking - I just thought I'd flag it up).
